Jeff Allen  |  Head Coach

Jeff Allen, a former Yellowjacket golfer, begins his second season in charge of the Yellowjacket golf programs in 2019-20.

Allen was named the head golf coach at MSUB on February 25, 2019. Prior to that, he served as the associate head coach of both men's and women's programs in the fall of 2018 and overall spent three seasons as an assistant coach in the program.

In 2017-18, Allen assisted with both the men’s and women’s golf programs coaching them towards the GNAC Championships tournament.

Allen assisted on a women’s golf team in 2016-17 that finished third in the GNAC in scoring average at 317.1 strokes per round. The Yellowjackets also tied for the highest team GPA in GNAC single-season history with a 3.74. Allen assisted MSUB’s men’s team to a record-breaking single-round team score of 269 at the RMC Invite in the fall of 2016.

A native of Dillon, Mont., Allen was the assistant golf professional at Hilands Golf Club in Billings and held that post from 2011-19. He was named the Rocky Mountain Section PGA Assistant Professional of the Year in 2014, before becoming a Class A member of the PGA of America in February of 2015.

Prior to his professional career, Allen capped off his four-year career with the ‘Jackets by winning the Yellowjacket Spring Invite as a senior in 2010. At the 2009 GNAC Championships, Allen earned all-conference honors by placing fourth.

He was a member of MSUB’s record-holding teams for a single-round score (271 in 2008-09) and a three-round score (834 in 2008-09).

Allen is married to former Yellowjacket women’s golf and women’s basketball standout Kalli (Stanhope) Allen.


Marcus Drange  |  Assistant Coach

Marcus Drange begins his sixth season as assistant golf coach in 2019-20.

Prior to becoming a coach, Drange participated in the Yellowjackets’ golf program for three seasons.

Drange was selected as the team’s most improved player during the 2013-14 season, and was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and an all-conference selection in 2011-12. During his career at MSUB, Drange notched three top-5 tournament finishes, and holds a career-low single-round mark of 66.

Prior to MSUB, Drange attended Montana State University in Bozeman from 2009-11. Drange was the Gallatin Valley Open champion in both 2010 and ’11.

Drange is a 2009 graduate of Billings West High School, where he was a Montana State AA all-state selection in 2008.


Thomas Ebel  |  Head Athletic Trainer

Thomas Ebel begins his ninth year as the head athletic trainer at Montana State University Billings in 2019-20 after serving five years (2006-2011) as the head athletic trainer and teacher at Clovis High School in Clovis, New Mexico

At MSUB, Ebel is in charge of taking care of student-athletes on the men's soccer, men's basketball, and track and field squads, and oversees all 15 varsity athletic teams’ athletic training needs.

Before taking over at Clovis High, Ebel spent four years (2002-06) at Eastern Medical Associates (EMA) in Portales, New Mexico, where he was a physician extender and covered the local high schools. Part of his duties with EMA were designing core strength, rehabilitation and conditioning programs, performing fitness evaluations and orientations, developing athletic injury prevention and treatment programs, along with various other duties.

Prior to his time at EMA, Ebel spent six years (1995-2001) as the head athletic trainer and instructor at Concordia University Nebraska in Seward, Nebraska. At Concordia, Ebel created and developed the student athletic training program for the university. He also designed multiple programs and was responsible for all of the day-to-day operations of the training room.

Ebel received a Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise science from Concordia University Nebraska in 1994 then received a teaching certificate from Concordia in 2002. In 2004 he received his master's degree in athletic administration from Eastern New Mexico University.

Ebel is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association as well as being CPR and AED certified. He also holds a certification as a Performance Enhancement Specialist.
